Day 1 - Sunny Skies At Last

Finally I have escaped the Melbourne weather and moved to warmer climates for the next week, but I won’t make you jealous with any photos of the sunny skies up here just yet!

I took a trip to Cleveland, just outside of Brisbane, where I met the rest of the team and then caught the afternoon car ferry over to the Moreton Bay Research Station on North Stradbroke Island, our home for the next week.

The research station has accommodation, research laboratories, lecture theatres and boating and diving equipment. Scientists and researchers come from all over the world each year to use the research station to study marine life found in Moreton Bay.

We were all very lucky to have been given a Welcome to Country by Quandamooka elder Aunty Joan, a traditional custodian of Minjerribah – the island's traditional indigenous name. We heard about how her people had cared for the Moreton Bay environment for thousands of years.
You would all know about a Welcome To Country from our school assembly, and when we had the smoking ceremony to open the new Cloud building last week.

We then heard about all the research activities we will be helping scientist with this week, as well as some of the marine life we might see. The top of my list to see is definitely my favourite animal, the sea turtle AND if we’re really lucky, a DUGONG!!
